On January 22, 2013, the photo exhibition “5” will premier at Daikanyama Tsutaya in the #2 gallery space on the first floor. The exhibition features selections from Gentaro Ishizuka’s “Gold Rush Alaska Chilkoot Trail” and Masaru Tatsuki’s “Is the blood still red? 2011.11.19-20″, both of which were first exhibited at SLANT in 2012.
With creative, individual styles, these two artists face the world head-on to introduce the unique locations where they are active. What we see are images from two completely different worlds that reveal the surprisingly tranquil reality of life and death. By experiencing these two representative collections together from the artists – two artists who are at once in contrast and yet unmistakably cut from the same vein – we are given a rare insight into the endless possibility of photographic expression. Photographs from the two series have also been published together to form the tabloid-sized magazine “5”, which is available for sale.
