Positioned on the border between Pakistan and China is Gasherbrum II (8,035 m / 26,362 ft), the 13th highest mountain in the world. At 8 am on July 25th, 2019, the photographer Naoki Ishikawa was standing on the summit.
This summer Ishikawa was on an expedition to K2 for the second time in four years. However, due to heavy snow, he had to pullback just 600 m (1,969 ft) from the peak.After descending the mountain in disappointment, and while some of his companions were already making preparations to go home, Ishikawa headed towards the unknown massif of Gasherbrum.From among the mountains he set his sights on Gasherbrum II, and without any preparation, set out at once towards the summit.
This book is comprised of photographs that Ishikawa snapped directly after his exhausting climb of K2. See through Ishikawa’s eyes a collapsed glacier blocking the path of the climber, multifarious forms of the mountain, and the wilderness of this mountain whose name means “beautiful mountain” in the native Balti language.Recorded within are also serene images of the scenery and people of the town of Askole, Pakistan at the entrance to the trekking route.
