[展覧会概要] 木下晋 祈りの時代 □会場：SLANT □会期：2012年7月29日(日）〜8月19日(日） □時間：11：00 ~ 19：00 □住所：石川県金沢市広坂1-2-32 2F　 □tel：076-225-7746　 入場料：無料 □月曜休廊（祝日開廊） 現実は、ただそれとして、そこにある。 人の善意や悪意を超えた場所で。 東日本大震災後、がれきの山を前に1人の貧弱な人間にできるのは、 手を合わせ祈ることだけ。母を想い、子を想い、遠い誰かを思って。それは人間だからこその世界との結び付き方。 祈りの時代。 木下晋はこれまで、10Ｈから10Ｂの鉛筆を用いてモノクロームの独自な世界を築いてきました。木下に描かれた元ハンセン病患者の詩人桜井哲夫ら、現実に翻弄された人間の姿は、これ以上ないほど写実的でありながら、その向こうの「なにか」を観る者に訴えてきます。たとえ手を合わせていなくても、その光と影で彩られた圧倒的な表現自体が祈りであるかのように。 本展では、桜井哲夫を描いた作品を中心に、新作の合掌図も発表します。初日の２９日には、毎日新聞記者の萩尾信也さんとのトークイベントも開催します。他に類を見ない祈りの表現を見に、ぜひともご来場下さい。

萩尾信也（はぎおしんや）／毎日新聞記者 1955年長崎県生まれ。早稲田大学卒業後、毎日新聞に入社。前橋支局、東京本社社会部、バンコク支局特派員、外信部デスク、サンデー毎日編集次長、東京社会部編集委員などを経て、2011年から東京社会部部長委員。著書に「じぱんぐ」（毎日新聞、1989年）、「情報デモクラシー」（同、92年）、「あのうたが聴こえますか　戦後50年歌物語」（音楽之友社、95年）、「生きる者の記録」（毎日新聞社、03年）、「ジャーナリズムの方法」（早稲田大学出版、06年）、「三陸物語　被災地で生きる人々の記録」（毎日新聞社、11年）。新聞に連載した「生きる者の記録」で03年年度「石橋湛山記念早稲田ジャーナリズム大賞」を、 「三陸物語」などの新聞連載で12年度「日本記者クラブ賞」を受賞。

The Age of Prayer

From July 29th, 2012 (Sunday) until August 19th, 2012 (Sunday), SLANT is pleased to present Susumu Kinoshita's exhibition, "The Age of Prayer".

Reality is simply what it is. It is simply there. It lies beyond the intentions of human beings – whether for good or otherwise. After the Tohoku Earthquake, what can a single, devastated person do in the face of a mountain of rubble except join their hands in prayer? To their mother, or to their children, or to someone far away. This thing that we call prayer is what binds all of us of the human world together.
The age of prayer.

Using just pencils (10H to 10B), Susumu Kinoshita has constructed a monochrome world of loneliness. While at once stunningly realistic, these drawings of former leprosy patients, of human beings tossed so violently through reality (including poet Tetsuo Sakurai), also push the viewer to consider the question of what lies beyond. Without even joining hands, these stunning drawings of light and darkness are a prayer themselves.

Presented in this exhibition for the first time along with other works is a drawing of Tetsuo Sakurai's hands joined in prayer. On the first night of the exhibition, we will also be holding a talk featuring the artist and journalist Shinya Hagio from Mainichi Newspaper. We truly hope that you will come to experience this exhibition, an expression of prayer unlike any other.
